Gus Sails Off-Shore Racing Sails

We are tremendously proud of the victories our customers have had with Gus Off-shore sails.  These sails have run the spectrum.  All available cloth has been used: Carbon, Kevlar, Technora, Spectra, Polyester, Pentex, Dacron, and more.  All design layouts have been utilized : tri-radial, bi-radial, cross-cut, quilt-cut, fan-radial, vertical, fiber-oriented and more.  Our philosophy is to provide the best sail and at the best price.  In most cases we are able to build a stronger sail using less expensive cloth than our competitors.  Unfortunately, most of the lofts use salesmen to pitch sails to potential customers.  The salesman has built in incentive to pitch a unnecessarily  expensive sail.  I sell all our Off-Shore sails personally.  My only incentive is to sell you the correct sail.

Our philosophy of speed + durability + value was most dramatically revealed at the 2005 TRANS-PAC Race.  Scott Self and Nigel Brown entered their Hobie 33 with a full inventory of Gus Sails in the Double-handed Division and Division 5 where they sailed against fully crewed boats.  They pulled off probably the most improbable victory in TRANS-PAC history.  We worked for months with Scott helping him to select the proper sails for the race and then build them in a way to ensure no sail failures.  This was crucial as a double handed team was not equipped for speedy sail changes.  Every sail performed perfectly, with not even a small rip.  Most other boats were not so lucky. Scott was amused to watch the boats come into Hawaii with multiple blown sails.  Many 3-DL and other over priced sails did not survive.

The largest offshore race in Texas is the Harvest Moon regatta which attracts close to 200 boats.  Just before heading to the TRANS-PAC Scott Self and Nigel Brown did the 180 mile race.  After winning the TRANS-PAC, they brought the Hobie 33 home along with the TRANS-PAC sails where they entered and won the "Overall Harvest Moon Championship".  (This was the 2nd harvest Moon regatta on these sails). Gus Sails customer Jeff Progelhof finished 2nd overall on his Olson 30.  The 2005 Harvest Moon regatta was Jeff's first for his Olson 30. Jeff's been buying from Gus Sails for years, so he already knew where to get winning sails.  The 2006 Harvest Moon went, just as the 2005.  Many of the top Texas boats entered with Jeff Progelhof taking 2nd overall and Scott Self first overall again.  So for Scott and Nigel, that's three 180 mile Harvest Moon regattas and 1 TRANS-PAC on 1 set of Gus Sails!!!

Cruising Sails

Gus Sails customer Roland Arthur told me the best sails he ever had were the ones Gus Sails made for his Swan 53.  We could not have sought out a better recommendation for our cruising sails, as Roland has owned nearly every type of boat and sails from nearly every sailmaker!  These sails were Spectra Taffata which resulted in a strong, durable and "soft" sail.

We take our cruising sails seriously because we realize most sailors cruise and very few race.  Once again, we use our price advantage to win orders and make the customer happy!

Regardless of you needs, full battened mains, UV roller-furl protection, cruising laminates, asymmetrical spinnakers, storm sails, we've got you covered
